THE HAUTES ALPES BY DOG SLEDDING
Curiosity  coupled  with a  desire  to  discover great  new  horizons  while  respecting its geographical  and  sporting  characteristics, is  also an  integral part of   the beaten path holiday projects that are interesting to discover with dog sledding excursions, such as in the fascinating department of the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur region, the Hautes Alpes.
Located in  the northeastern  part of the  Provence-Alpes-Côte  d'Azur region  incorporating  a dual geographical feature including  the  Northern  Alps, notably the  high valleys of  the Romanche,  Champsaur and Dévoluy and by the Southern
Alps  cover the  main area  of the  territory, in addition to  its proximity to  the  departments  of Alpes de Haute Provence, Drôme, Isère and  Savoie, and  its shared  border with Italy, The  Hautes Alpes form a vast  natural area composed mainly
of mountains where nature reigns  supreme, such as those  found in the Massif  des Ecrins, including the Vallouise Valley, as well as in the Queyras, which are listed  within the national  and regional natural  parks of the Ecrins and Queyras and
are  popular  sites for  mountaineering as  well as  for high and  medium mountain hiking,  complemented by other areas
natural areas,  each as  stunning as the  next, classified as Natura  2000 zones alongside  nature reserves welcoming, like
the Pics du Combeynot National Nature Reserve. Besides the beauty and variety of its  landscapes, the Hautes-Alpes are also ideal for numerous sporting activities, making it exciting to  practice, whether it be  during hikes or mountain biking
in  the  heart  of its  mountains  and forests  or along  its magnificent  lakes such as  Serre Ponçon, alongside its very well
equipped  ski  resorts  for  downhill  skiing  as well as  cross-country  skiing,  such  as  Puy  Saint  Vincent,  Vars,  Orcières
Merlette,Saint Léger,Les Mélèzes or Serre Eyraud complemented by dog sledding expeditions which offer the possibility
of crisscrossing especially within the family majestic spaces like those of the Valgaudemar, Freissinières or Ceillac valleys.
A means of transport used by the Inut people  since the year  1000, particularly for  hauling heavy loads and  for hunting
sled  dogs  and  their practical  applications appeared  in Europe  around  the  17th century  and in subsequent centuries
helped  by  the  exploration of polar  regions  and the Gold Rush  which have  intensified the intensive use  of dog teams
but it was only towards the second half of the 20th century that the  practice of dog  sledding with  teams was used as a
leisure activity and competitive sport.

In the Spirit Of The Trappers

Dog sledding is also an interesting and experience that allows you to discover this vast territory with options including

baptism when you sit in the sled or initiation to dog sledding where you learn to drive a dog sled over a day or more depending on the option chosen and guided by guides called "Mushers and this since the French-Canadian drivers

shouted "Marche" to make their dogs move forward, and which is applied today in the terms "Musher" and "Mushing" for the practice of dog sledding, as Philippe DELANNOY and Marc VASTEL, localized "Mushers", explain to me in the

Champsaur Valgaudemar region  "The expeditions we undertake in these untouched territories are, for us and for our followers, unique and unforgettable experiences that allow us to experience a rich and great fauna and flora alongside

the beauty of the mountain and forest massif and our traditions, often passed down from generation to generation,

along with our sense of hospitality indicate me Philippe DELANNOY with a big smile."Depending on the group and the

location, the packs are composed of 4, 6, 8 or 10 dogs of different breeds ranging from the Alaskan Malamute, the

Siberian Husky or the dog Greenlandic Eskimo and these well-trained dogs, accustomed to the geographical and

geological specificities of the mountains and forests of the Hautes-Alpes have been used for years to train people to

guide sleds through the snow with the most significant ones, alongside the races that make up the different teams,

which are modulated from one team to our other dogs, who live in semi-freedom, are housed in a park usually located

near our cottages and corresponding living spaces and nothing like a family getaway in the great wild spaces of the

Valgaudemar Valley to reconnect with your inner child while simultaneously immersing yourself in the spirit of the

trappers the bond with the dogs that delights the children" Marc Vastel explains to me while stroking the muzzle of a

Husky of Siberia. One of the distinctive features of this radiant territory, which offers surprises at every turn, is the

a constant juxtaposition of breathtaking landscapes incorporating all that nature has to offer in its noblest form.

It is particularly interesting to observe at sunset, which offers great colors on its natural spaces punctuated by magical light during the winter season, and the Hautes-Alpes, a beautiful and rebellious land, both wild and attractive, it is a

territory that fascinates with the great diversity of its places, each as enchanting as the next, making it an active and unforgettable holiday destination.
